Mac disk utility updating boot support partitions
It was preparing the backup for some time because it had been a while since it had been backed up.
While it was doing this, her Mac "Restarted because of problem" and since then the my hard drive that was connected has the problems above. Thanks in advance, Paul Hello, If you want to recover your data I recommend you use a data recovery software.
I downloaded the WD drive utilities and the first test, Drive Status Check, passed, but the Quick Drive Test failed.
I proceeded to order a replacement drive, and then on a lark, I put my passport in the fridge for an hour or so.
I have had the hard drive for a couple of years and it has always worked perfectly.
It is also used as the Time Machine for my girlfriend's 2011 15-inch Mac Book Pro and the problem started when I tried to do a Time Machine backup on her computer this morning.
Now the same issue happened to the Mac D after a few days.Verify Disk Log:2012-11-01 -0400: Verifying volume "Buffalo HD"2012-11-01 -0400: Starting verification tool: 2012-11-01 -0400: Performing live verification.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking extents overflow file.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking catalog file.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking multi-linked files.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking catalog hierarchy.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking extended attributes file.2012-11-01 -0400: Checking volume bitmap.2012-11-01 -0400: Volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned blocks2012-11-01 -0400: Checking volume information.2012-11-01 -0400: The volume Buffalo HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.2012-11-01 -0400: Error: This disk needs to be repaired.Click Repair Disk.2012-11-01 -0400: 2012-11-01 -0400: Disk Utility stopped verifying "Buffalo HD": This disk needs to be repaired. I copy out the files/folders that need saving then delete the partitions, create new ones, (format if the tools offer such) and then put my files back on. Because we can corrupt drives by losing power, connection at just the right time and repair tools can only handle what the authors know about, I've learned to do this rather than waste more time.Click Repair Disk.2012-11-01 -0400: Wash, rinse, repeat. I can only assume that the problem that caused her Mac to restart also corrupted my hard drive somehow. If this does not work then contact a data recovery company. You may try formatting the drive in order to use it again but this will delete all data stores in it.
